Biography
Welcome to the
deeper recesses of my web
site. This is the bit where I tell you about myself. For starters, I was
born and live in Edinburgh, Scotland, with my wife,
Karen.
My interest in amateur theatre started
back in 1969, when I was a mere youth of 20 years. (A quick bit of arithmetic
will reveal my true age!) After serving my theatrical apprenticeship
with local group
Edinburgh People's Theatre, I moved on to become a
founder member of Edinburgh Youth Theatre and worked with a number of other
groups. Since 1978, I have mostly worked with the Mercators, one of Edinburgh's oldest
drama groups. During my forty plus years in amateur
theatre, I have acted in over seventy plays, directed over forty, and been actively
involved in at least another thirty. I've been a film extra, have
appeared four times in the world famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and work as
stage director at local and regional drama festivals. I also appear in a film
seen by visitors to Edinburgh's 18th century Georgian House.
Since my first play was written in 1973, I have won eight playwriting
competitions including the
Geoffrey Whitworth Trophy for the best original play entered in the British One Act
Festival. My One Act plays have won numerous trophies at Drama Festivals including
many best actor/actress awards. Several plays have been translated and one has
even been adapted into a One Act Opera.
Total performances number over 900, mainly in the UK, including
seven
Edinburgh Festival Fringe Productions, but also in
Ireland, Holland, France, Spain, Canada, USA, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Malta,
Cyprus, Gibraltar and South Africa.

Act Plays, Scottish Plays and Dramatised
Readings. I have also collaborated with another writer and close
friend, Alistair Ferguson, on many Pantomime scripts. For details, please contact AA Pantos.
